Curvy Corridor Courtyard (曲廊院) is hidden in the long and winding Hutong, Dongcheng district, Beijing. This place was the former residence of the imperial physician during Qing Dynasty. In order to retain the historical look of the house, the design team spent three years to combine the cultural remains with the modern function as a tea room and a fine dining restaurant.
We went there for dinner and the entrance was really hard to find. The exact location is: NO.25 Dongsi eleven, Dongcheng District, Beijing. See the map below.
Curvy Corridor Courtyard offers three set menus with the price of 588RMB (7 courses), 788RMB (9 courses), and 988RMB (11 courses) — PS.they just raised the price after they got “Michelin Recommended” in Dec.2019. If you don’t want the whole tasting menu, you can also order each dish separately. As I visited the restaurant with my family, we got the chance to taste all the dishes from the menu. Below were some highlights of the meal.
Mule duck | roast duck breast, foie gras sauce, orange sauce, onion, crispy sweet potato Sea Cucumber Sandwich | foie gras, black sesame Butterfly shrimp with miled rice congee | water chestnut, leek Foie gras & truffle miled rice | oats, shepherd’s purse 3 Years Aged Ham & pan fried rice Sea salt ice cream, sesame
My favorite dish of the night must be the “foie gras & truffle miled rice”. The crispy oats added an extra layer to the creaminess of the foie, and the smell of black truffle made me crave this simple dish again and again. Even though some courses had odd combinations and I thought there were too many sesame elements, I did not want to comment on the flavor of each dish since everyone has a different taste buds. The service team was well trained and the dining environment was either romantic (to newly married couple like Gavin and I) or nostalgic (to people who are looking for Old Beijing Taste). Wish Curvy Corridor Courtyard the best luck of attaining their first Michelin star next year!
